Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days by sharing ideas for how shortcomings discovered in their evaluations and/or their examples of incivility could have been managed more effectively. Here is the posts from my classmates. Please provide replies for both of them and add at least 2 resources.
Hi Summer,
Introduction
The Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory (CHWI) is a comprehensive assessment tool designed to evaluate various facets of workplace health. The CHWI encompasses physical and psychological well-being, workplace culture, and organizational practices. Employees can provide feedback through a series of questions or statements, enabling organizations to ascertain the overall health of their workplace environment (Clark et al., 2016). By leveraging insights gleaned from the CHWI, employers can identify areas of strength and areas needing improvement, empowering them to implement strategies that enhance employee well-being, reduce stress, boost job satisfaction, and ultimately optimize organizational performance (Broome & Marshall, 2021).
Workplace Environment Assessment
Based on the Work Environment Assessment, my workplace scored 88. This score indicates a high overall health and well-being level within our organizational environment. It suggests that my workplace exhibits strengths across various dimensions, including physical health, psychological well-being, workplace culture, and organizational practices. A score of 88 reflects a positive and supportive atmosphere where employees likely feel valued, engaged, and satisfied with their work (Clark et al., 2016). However, its essential to continue monitoring and addressing any areas for improvement to sustain and enhance the workplaces health and effectiveness over time.
Workplace Civility
Based on the Work Environment Assessment results, my workplace is generally civil. While it has achieved a high score of 88 overall, indicating a positive and supportive environment, there is always room for improvement in fostering even greater civility. Civility is demonstrated through respectful interactions among colleagues, adherence to organizational values, and a culture that promotes inclusivity and collaboration (Phan & Hampton, 2023). However, to further enhance civility, it is vital to promote open communication, empathy, and understanding among team members. Training on conflict resolution skills and emphasizing the importance of mutual respect can also contribute to maintaining and strengthening the civil nature of my workplace.
Workplace Incivility
Recently, incivility surfaced in the team dynamics, particularly involving senior nurses disregarding the contributions and perspectives of newer nurses, which compromised effective teamwork crucial for patient care on the floor. During shift handovers and patient care discussions, senior nurses often dominated conversations, dismissing suggestions and input from their newer counterparts without proper consideration, making the newer nurses feel marginalized and disheartened. To address this issue, a team meeting was called to provide a platform for the newer nurses to express their concerns in a supportive environment conducive to open dialogue. An impartial facilitator was brought into moderate discussions, ensuring all nurses had an opportunity to contribute and fostering a culture of respect and collaboration. Additionally, senior nurses underwent training sessions to enhance teamwork and communication skills. At the same time, clear expectations were set regarding the importance of valuing contributions from all nursing team members, irrespective of seniority. Measures were also implemented to hold individuals accountable for uncivil behavior, with regular evaluations as a mechanism for monitoring adherence to established norms. Through these efforts, the nursing unit aimed to address and mitigate incivility, ultimately fostering a more cohesive and patient-centered care environment for all nurses involved in providing direct patient care on the floor.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory is a valuable tool for evaluating various aspects of workplace health, encompassing physical and psychological well-being, workplace culture, and organizational practices. With my workplace scoring 88 on the Work Environment Assessment, I have identified strengths across these dimensions, indicating a positive and supportive atmosphere where employees likely feel valued and engaged. However, recognizing that there is always room for improvement, it is essential to stay committed to fostering even greater civility and addressing incivility, as exemplified by recent efforts in our nursing unit. By leveraging insights from the CHWI and implementing strategies to enhance employee well-being, reduce stress, and promote collaboration, my workplace aims to optimize organizational performance and ensure a positive work environment for all.

Hi Emily,
Introduction
Quality health care and positive patient outcomes are heavily dependent on good nursing care. Healthy working environments are imperative for continued high quality nursing care (Yapici & Arlan Yurrmezoglu, 2021). Completing the Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory provided a score of 70 indicating a relatively healthy work environment, however, the score doesnt necessarily determine the level of civility in the workplace (Clark, 2019).
Workplace Civility
Based on the assessment results, my workplace could be moderately civil. Positive factors that promote civility include respectful communication among colleagues, a supportive atmosphere, and an absence of overt hostility or discrimination. Factors that are not supportive of a civil workplace and could stand to be improved include conflict resolution processes, clarity of expectations, and inclusivity issues.
Incivility in the Workplace
A situation at my workplace where incivility has been observed occurred during multiple team meetings. A colleague consistently interrupted others while they were speaking, dismissed their ideas, and exhibited an overall passive-aggressive attitude. This led to less participation in the meetings and had a negative effect on morale.
To address this incivility, myself and other colleagues spoke with the offender privately at different times. We expressed concern about her behavior and its impact on the morale of the team. Additionally, without singling out a specific employee, team leaders established consequences for interrupting others during a meeting that began with verbal warnings and escalated to dismissal from the meetings.
Conclusion
By addressing incivility directly and implementing appropriate interventions, workplaces can foster a more respectful inclusive environment for all employees. Inherently, this should lead to higher morale among nursing staff and have positive effects on patient outcomes.
